Purple Coneflowers in Late Summer

One indigenous flower where I live is the purple coneflower. Related to the daisy, it's also known as echinacea, which when taken in pill form and combined with goldenseal, helps to combat viral infections.

A perennial, this flower is indigenous to this region because it can survive the wide variations in our weather--long dry spells, wet periods, and high humidity. The petals aren't always pretty and appear dried and wilted in these pictures. The pollen remains an attraction for bees.
