Returning to Weston Bend State Park

When classes were cancelled in early November because of the Royals winning the World Series, I returned to Weston Bend State Park to walk on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River.  I should have remained at home grading my students' essays. Even teachers get a break occasionally.

A Colorful Scene

The trees near this house are particularly colorful every year. I make a point of taking pictures from the side of the road every autumn. One year a neighbor was suspicious because one of the houses nearby had been broken into, so he came out to talk to me. He eventually was convinced that I was harmless.

Peak of Color at Wyandotte County Lake

These shots at Wyandotte County Lake (Kansas City, Kansas) were taken about a month ago during or close to the peak of color this autumn.  It stayed relatively warm, that is, mid 50s or mid 60s, up until about a week ago. We didn't have our first frost until last weekend, which is a few weeks later than usual. El Nino is supposed to make the winter in northeastern Kansas a bit warmer this year.
